A Hand pain could be caused by various reasons. It could be a disease, an injury, repetitive motion causing wear and tear of tissues. A hand pain needs medical attention when the pain is unrelenting and does not go away.
Symptoms
The symptoms of the hand pain are easily ignored. Though many of the symptoms could be shared by many other medical conditions, the common symptoms are:
- Swelling
- Tingling sensation in fingers that cause thinning pain
- Pain around thumb and index finger

The common symptoms of the Scaphoid Facture are:
- Swelling around the injury
- Intense pain and discomfort
- Inability to move the wrist
- Inability to hold objects
- Numbness in the palm
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common medical condition that is caused due to inflammation of the median nerve. The median nerve is the major hand nerve that passes through the hand it supplies first two fingers and thumb. The condition causes ache and numbness in the hand.
Symptoms of Carpal tunnel syndrome
The symptoms of the condition start gradually and the pain is radiating in nature . The condition affects both the hands in more than 50% of the cases. The symptoms of the Carpal tunnel syndrome are:
- Pain and Numbness
- Weak grip
- Pain at the base of the thumb
- Tingling pain in the hand
- Loss of grip
De Quervain’s Tendinosis is swelling of the tissues around the base of the thumb. In this condition the tendons (tissues) at the base of the thumb become thick which causes pain and tenderness in the thumb side of the wrist.
Symptoms
The symptoms of the De Quervain’s Tendinosis are:
- Pain and tenderness at the base of your thumb
- Swelling near the base of your thumb
- Inability to move moving your thumb and wrist
- A pain that comes and goes away when moving the thumb
- Numbness on the thumb side of the wrist sometimes
Trigger finger is also called as “Stenosing Tenosynovitis”. In this condition the patient feels a locking commonly in the thumb and index finger, though this condition could affect all other fingers. This causes pain, numbness and stiffness in the fingers, limiting its ability to work its full potential.
Symptoms
The symptoms of the Trigger Finger when ignored could elevate the condition. Though many of the symptoms could be shared by many other medical conditions, the common symptoms are:
- Popping or locking sound when bending the fingers
- Pain on bending fingers
- Stiffness in the fingers
- Sore finger

Dupuytren’s Contracture a condition when one or more fingers of the hand start to bend first slightly and then over time, the fingers remain bent permanently. The fingers then can no longer be straightened and cause some pain and discomfort.
